I had a conversation yesterday with a woman who just enrolled in 50 Shades of Green.
She grew up in a deeply deprived environment.
Even though her life is totally different now, and she has success, money, acclaim and an audience that loves and trusts her...
... she still feels like everything could disappear.
She keeps a large cash reserve because part of her is terrified it will all run out.
She worries about ending up homeless.
She braces for things collapsing even though her current reality no longer reflects that fear at all.
At one point she said:
“My husband tells me every day that this just isn’t our reality anymore.”
And I just sat there thinking about how many people have changed their circumstances while their brain, body, and cells are still reacting to an old reality. ACK!
It’s one thing to wake up afraid of how you’re going to pay your electricity bill because that’s the reality of your situation.
But imagine waking up that afraid when you could pay everyone’s electricity bill on the block for the rest of the year.
It’s a fascinating phenomenon that your income can grow long before your capacity to hold that reality does.
You can increase your income while still checking your bank account anxiously, doing last minute price drops on the phone with new client prospects, overspending after good months, and panicking whenever revenue drops.
At one point I told her:
“The fear is keeping you attached to the very reality you no longer want.”
And I saw something click.
Because she already knew she wasn’t lacking ambition, intelligence, work ethic, or even opportunity. This is a brilliant lady, putting in the effort, with a heart of gold designed to make a huge impact on humanity.
Her system simply had not adjusted to the level of safety, support, wealth, and expansion now available to her.
